1. Describe Francisco's study habits and approach to learning. Identify the subjects and assignments that were the most difficult for him and explain why? Compare his experience with your own.

2. How did Francisco decide on a science topic for his research report? Did his efforts meet with success? Explain.

3. What two details show that his parents never went to his school? Why do you think they didn't go?

4. In what ways did Francisco's parents and Roberto show their excitement about his graduation and treat it as a special occasion? (pages 58-59).

5. What is a St. Christopher medal? In what way was it an especially valuable gift?

6. Why was Francisco glad when Robert Lindsay moved in front of him in line? (p. 59) What humorous thought about the other boys probably kept Francisco from feeling too self-conscious?

7. At the end of the chapter, Francisco imagines his parents sitting in the audience next to Roberto, "their faces glowing." What does this last phrase imply?
