Vocabulary Review: Unit 1, Chapter 2

Some words are frequently combined with other words, and these words naturally go together, creating common phrases. Words that appear in frequent combination are called collocations. This exercise will acquaint you with some frequently used word combinations.

Directions:
     Read the sentences and note the blanks followed by words in italics. These phrases are commonly used collocations.
     Try to guess a word for each blank. Write in your guess and hit Enter or the Tab key. If you guessed correctly, the word will appear in green.
     If you didn't guess the word commonly used with the other words in the phrase, your answer will be red. Type in a question mark , hit Enter and then learn the phrase. All of these phrases are in frequent use. [In some instances another word would be correct, but learn the phrase as it is given here.]
     Continue with the exercise. Redo the exercise until you can fill all the blanks correctly. Use the Tab key to move from blank to blank.
