Focus on Parts of Speech

Suffixes are word endings that change the part of speech when added to a word.

Examples:

Verb = fascinate noun = fascination
verb = rely adjective = reliable
adjective = equal noun = equality

It is important to be able to recognize common suffixes like the ones below.

Common noun suffixes: -ity, -ics, -ist, -tion, -cy

Common adjective suffixes: -al / cal, -ate, -able, -ed/-ing
