   Recommended Lab Practice for ESL 344

ESL 344L is a required lab course for ESL 344, Basic Listening and Speaking 1. In the lab you can get instructional assistance and use the programs listed below to help you excel in ESL 344.

INTERACTIVE SOFTWARE

The Oxford Picture Dictionary Interactive (For vocabulary practice)
   Directions for using the software
    First time users click REGISTER. Under Teacher Name, select Teacher_default and then write your name and password. (Use your student ID so you won't forget it.) Select a unit icon to study vocabulary based on a theme. After you are registered, click Sign in and select your class (Teacher_default) and name.

English Interactive 1
   Directions for using the software
   Open English 1 on the desktop. First time users open "click here." Set your username and password and save.
Next, open the Course Outline. Open the (+) sign by the units marked A.1, etc. Open Unit Home and then work your way through all of the parts of the unit: Listening, Speaking, Grammar, Vocabulary, Listening Challenge, Pronunciation, Reading, Review Quiz, and Unit Summary.

   The first time you open a unit, please click Edit Student Profile at the top of the page. You will see your username and password. Scroll to select class . Choose the class with your instructor's name and click save. By doing this, you and your instructor can track your scores on unit tests.

Focus on Grammar 1
   Directions for using the software
   Open FOG 1 on the desktop. Use the same username and password you used for English 1. These will work for all Longman programs. Open Contents and then open the (+) sign for each unit and then the (+) sign by Listen and Speak in each unit. Your instructor may suggest a unit to study, or you can select units based on the grammar topics you need to study.

World Link 1: borrow the DVD or audio CDs
Contemporary Topics Introductory Level: Text, DVD, and CDs are available.
Northstar Introductory: Borrow the audio CDs
The Oxford Genie: Open the Genie on the desktop and use it when you need to look up a word.

ONLINE @ ESL STATION

Open the Internet and go to www.eslstation.net. Open the 340 series of courses and then open Listening/Speaking. Here you will find links to the companion website for World Link 1, Connect with English video series, English for All, Mansion Ingles, ESL-Lab.com, and the listening dictation exercises at Adele's ESL Corner as well as other links. Select a link you want to study and listen for a half hour every day to improve your listening skills.

Please Note: When you are listening at home, please track your time on the ESL Lab time sheet and turn it in each time you have completed four hours.

Check your Moodle page often for class assignments and any other links your instructor may post.
